I often find myself very confused with modern art. I admit that this is probably due to my own ignorance of the subject and so I am working on this. I realise that modern art can cover a multitude and so I am trying to understand what can go under this umbrella. I also realise that goes a long way. So I have been spending some time researching modern artists. So far I find I am less inclined towards the abstract however in photography and also in painting as it is sometimes hard to separate the two I love the portrayal of everyday life. This varies from country to country as a constant traveller due to my work what I find exotic and interesting is everyday life for another person. I am personally categorising this as travel. I am looking towards the modern in everyday life that relates to me or similar. How to portray an everyday moment of beauty or not in an original way.
French artist who loves to take pictures in the rain. I am also paying attention to the booklet which accompanied my visit to the gallery which I might note is lacking on many gallery visits and so then I must rely on the internet to enlighten me.
The text the accompanies his images show the romantic side and the feeling of being an observer on the streets of a city when it rains. Most people do not look they take shelter in their homes or rush to get back to their homes without taking in the scene. Rain can create beautiful images. Glistening light with less people around. Christophe has shown us what seems like another world the one in the rain.
Fashion Guru. His images are strong beautiful and original. This particular one was hanging in the gallery. Its cheeky and funny. It shows beauty and confidence in the woman it portrays as does much of his other work. You cannot help but smile at the cheekyness of the shot.
This artist is the perfect example of a modern artist which is very original. He shows passing moments in urban life blurred, unclear and moving as is the world of the city.
I have seen her displayed at the Miami Art Basel week and now here again at Lumas. Interesting ideas.
What have I been seeing at these galleries. Multi media, constructed on computers, constructed on rubble. A combination of photos, painting, media. I feel I am a purist when it comes to photography however I maintain an open mind. If you get a chance to visit Lumas apart from what is on display. They have endless ammounts of images for sale on their files which you can look through. If only I lived in New York. I would also keep an eye on this gallery if you are in the market for affordable up and coming art.
