Burn is an evolving journal
for emerging photographers.
Today November 20th I have come back to this post as I am working on my light assignment. I am looking again at the images by Capozziello and there is a fantastic use of light. I am trying to study this use and the amazing way it creates atmosphere. Also his use of the black and white medium.
I also discover the images of Christopher Capozziello. His essay the distance between us. Apart from the emotional story. The images are strong and bold. Beautiful examples of composition and light. He creates atmosphere and emotions as you look at his images. I have noticed in his work shapes, lines, vectors and implied lines are used. To make us look around the image. I think it is a good example to study for assignment 2, elements of design. I am also drawn to the simplicity of the images. They do not tell us all the story but leave us wondering.
I have come back to look at this artist at the end of assignment 5 before trying to reshoot my assignment 2. His use of the black and white media emphasises his use of shapes and vectors. His images feel charged with energy. Above the use of the arms to emphasise the triangle shape of the hat. The implied line from the hat of the person in the forefront to that of the person behind leads our eyes.
In the above image the raised hospital bed creates a triangle and lets us look around the image before even looking at the person. This as we know is difficult to achieve as a persons face holds a natural attraction when looking at an image. The fingers of the subject act like vectors sending us along the bottom of the bed back up to the head resting on its cushion.
Lines seen in the image above cause us to look around the image. If you look carefully you will also note the position of the people in the front line create also triangles.
The above picture is a series of lines, vectors and shape. It charges the image with energy and gives us a sense of the stress and activity within this shot. The close proximity of hte three people show their intimacy with each other. The arms and legs in their different shapes cause us to continuously look around the image. Creating a sense of anxiousness while we try to understand the image.
