Gary Vinogrand 1928 to 1984
Particularly known for his portrayal of American life in the 1960’s many of his photos show the social issues and its portrayal by and influence of the media. Note in Winogrands Images there seems to be a sense of movment, action things happening.
Image one Notice the hands are moving in various directions and this gives us a say of looking around the image. The Gentleman is facing the girl and the girl is looking out of the frame leading us to believe there is more going on than what we see. The curves and circles on the wall paper help in to increase the sense of movement.
Image two there seems to be a central point in the hard had at the epicenter of the image. There are then arms and flags pointing in all directions leading us around the image and back. As my eyes dart back and forward in the image it gives me a sense of chaos and of action. The sign with writing gives us a clue as to the event noted also we can see a child and woman in the forefront showing us it is an event attended by all.
Here we see the eyes are used as vectors and communicate that there are more things going on outside the frams. Shapes created by the hands. Note the car behind giving us an indication of the time. The photograph these are all clues that make us curious what is the photo about.
This photograph of a woman laughing yes we would like to know why it seems just a genuine heartfelt laugh. The manequin behind of a man creates curiousity and makes me want to look longer at the image.
The air and arms moving in the same direction give a sense of movement. The line on the road leads us to the building behind. The car going in the opposite direcion of the womans hair.
There are so many details here in the dress and action of the people. The arms and legs bring us around the image in the forefront and the line going diagonally across the image punctuated with the line of small points of people in the background.
